British American Club

73 Maple Street, Manchester.DBR: 2

Not what you'd think. No pork pies, toad-in-the hole, fish and chips or Boddingtons, just a typical American club. It was established in 1922 by recently immigrated Protestant Scots-Irish silk workers who were barred from the established Roman Catholic Irish bars and clubs in Manchester. You have to prove British ancestry to become a member. Worth a visit. Only one beer on draught though! Guess which one..
